Fight For It XVIII Featured Bout: Josh Doster looks to spoil Jameson Thompson’s sterling record

Undefeated after three fights, Jameson Thompson has begun his MMA career an an absolute tear. In each of his three bouts to date, Thompson ended the show early with only his debut seeing a third round. All three have ended with Thompson executing a rear-naked choke on his opponent, and two of the three have ended in the first round of competition.

Now ranked by Tapology as the top contender among middleweights competing in South Carolina and No. 28 across the Southeast, Thompson has a streak to uphold as he squares up against the more experienced Joshua Doster, out of Bodyshot Combat Club.

Doster’s 3-2 record has shown a wealth of experience in a relatively short career to date. Two fights have gone the distance — a unanimous decision win and a split decision loss. Two have ended with Doster claiming victory by strikes, while one saw him falling the same way. But at this stage in the game, losses often provide more valuable to a developing fighter than easy wins.

Doster might be the underdog on paper — Tapology ranks him No. 3 in South Carolina, and No. 50 in the Southeast — but he could have what it takes to spoil Thompson’s streak. If Doster can control the range of the fight, and keep his heavy strikes a constant threat, he can hinder Thompson’s attempts to grapple and force him to adapt to a different kind of fight than he’s used to. If Doster’s more extensive experience in the cage gives him the advantage in adaptability and endurance, he should have strong odds. But don’t discount Thompson’s winning momentum and proven skills.

When these two rising middleweights clash at Fight for It XVIII, it’s bound to be an explosive match with significant implications for both fighters’ budding careers.
