Valdes vs. Doster — Fight Recap

(Audio)

The bout opened with Valdes managing range well, using sharp footwork, body kicks, and elbows to keep Josh Doster at bay. Early exchanges showed Valdes as the “sniper,” landing clean counters while Doster pressed forward. Even when Doster found success with size and pressure, Valdes answered back with slick Muay Thai tools—knees in the clinch, elbows on entries, and consistent body work. Commentators praised his distance control, saying it was nearly perfect in the first round.

As the fight wore on, however, the tide began to shift. Doster absorbed everything—hooks, elbows, even a spinning backfist—without showing signs of breaking. His chin and durability became the story. While Valdes racked up points with volume and precision, Doster’s single shots carried heavy power, snapping Valdes back whenever he pressed too confidently. By the second round, Doster’s constant forward march was wearing on Valdes, forcing him to simplify his striking and abandon some of his earlier creativity.

The decisive turn came in the third round. Despite Valdes’s brilliant display of technique—footwork, clinch work, and high-volume combinations—he began to fade. Doster capitalized, walking through punishment and answering with thudding blows that changed the momentum. A final barrage forced the referee to step in, giving Doster a stoppage win. The commentators marveled that Valdes had done “everything right” technically, but against Doster’s granite chin and relentless pressure, it simply wasn’t enough.
